Hytone Tablet and Side Effects
Generic Name
Generic name of hytone is hydrocortisone. It is a carticosteroid and helps reducing in skin allergies or itchy rashes or inflammatory skin conditions. Hytone is available in cream or lotion form and is used for topical application only.
Hytone can also be used for treating other forms of skin problems.
Precaution
- If your doctor recommends you hytone, tell your doctor if you are allergic to hytone or any other medicine-containing steroid.
- Although hytone’s affect on other medicine’s effectiveness is not known. However, if you are taking any other medicine whether prescribed, non-prescribed, food supplements, vitamins or herbal products, you should inform your doctor.
- If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor, as the effect of the medicine on unborn child is not known.
- If you are a breast-feeding mother, make sure to inform your doctor. Although it is not known whether sufficient amount of the hytone passes into the breast milk to affect a nursing baby.
- Inform you doctor if you are suffering from diabetes, tuberculosis, herpes or measles, infection or any other skin related problem.
- If you are using any other topical medicine for skin care, inform your doctor. If you apply some other products at some part of the skin, do not apply hytone at the same position.
Warning
- Do not allow touching hytone to your eyes or lips. If does, rinse out the ear or lip with plenty of water.
- Children should not be treated with this medicine for longer period.
- Over absorption of hytone in the body may lead to Cushing’s syndrome. The symptoms of Crushing’s syndrome include round moon faced appearance, flattened neck and trunk and purple skin. If you observe any of these symptoms, you should immediately contact to your doctor.
- You absorb some portion of the medicine through skin. Do not use more than the recommended medicine or do not use many times than the recommended dose to avoid the excess intake of medicine through skin, which may cause the side effects.
- Do not wrap your skin by plastic rapper or airtight bandage until and unless asked to do so.
Overdose
- You should only use the recommended dosage of hytone and if you suspect an overdose you should immediately contact to your doctor.
- If excess hytone or hytone for a longer duration has been used, it may cause Cushing’s syndrome. The overdose of hytone may also cause high blood sugar in blood or urine.
- If you suspect an overdose, you should immediately contact to your doctor.
Missed Dose
- If you missed a dose apply hytone as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time of your next dose skip the missed dose and follow regular schedule.
Side Effects
- Some common side effects of hytone may include burning, dryness, irritation, itching, peeling skin, skin inflammation, stretch marks, growth of excessive hair and change in skin color.
- If any of the side effects as mentioned above or any other side effects are observed, you should immediately contact to your doctor.
How to take
- Hytone is available in cream or lotion for topical application only.
- The medicine should be applied on the affected area of the skin exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Do not apply bandage or plastic wrapper unless directed.
How to store
- The medicines should be stored at room temperature between 15 to 30 degree centigrade and out of reach of children.
- The medicine should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture and should not be refrigerated.
- Outdated medicines should not be used and should be destroyed to avoid misuse of the medicines.
