Dohme:
Generic Name:
The generic name of dohme is amitriptyline, which is used as antidepressant. This drug should be taken only if prescribed by a physician.
Precautions:
- All precaution should be taken while prescribing the medicine for elderly people.
- If you are on MAO (monoamine oxidase), you should not take dohme and a minimum 14 days gap should be allowed to shift from MAO to dohme.
- If anyone in your family has a history of seizers, impaired liver function or mania, take all precautions before taking dohme and consult your doctor.
- If you are allergic to dohme or any other medicine of this class, tell your doctor before starting the treatment.
- If you are pregnant, plan to pregnant or are breast feeding, avoid the intake of dohme and inform your physician.
- All precautions should be taken, if you have a history of hepatic damage, seizers, impaired liver function, urinary retention, glaucoma or increased intraocular pressure.
- If you are recovering from myocardial infarction from acute heart failure, you should not take this medicine.
- Sometimes the combinations of medicines, if taken together may interact, so if you are taking any other medicine or herbal product, inform your doctor before starting the medicine.
Warning:
- If you are on dohme, you should carry out regular checkup.
- The dohme is not advisable prescribe children below 18 years of age.
- Avoid drinking alcohol while you are on dohme.
Overdose:
- The symptoms for overdose of this medicine may vary person-to-person and may include irregular blood pressure, agitation, depression, diarrhea, fatigue and irregular heartbeats.
- The more severe symptoms of overdose include rapid breathing restlessness, shock and tremor, kidney failures, convulsions and coma.
How to take:
- Dohme should be taken only if prescribed by a doctor.
- Take the appropriate dose as prescribed by the doctor. May be taken with or without food.
- Do not take the medicine in the late evening, which may affect your sleep.
- If you have skipped one dose, try to take your next dose at regular schedule. Do not take double dose.
Side Effects:
- The common side effects of dohme are weakness or tiredness, thirsty, tremor, nausea, muscle weakness, and nausea and decreased kidney function.
- The extreme severe side effects include excessive urination, balance problem in inner air, lower blood thyroid hormone level, over activity of thyroid glands, excessive fluid retention in body leading to swelling, skin rashes and memory problem.
- If anyone of these cases is observed in the patient, you must call doctor immediately.
How to store:
- The drugs should be stored in a safe place at room temperatures, and out of reach of children. These medicines should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture.
- Outdated medicines should be thrown out.
