Ezitimibe:
Generic Name: The generic name of the medicine is ezitimibe and it reduces the LDL (low density lipid) cholesterol apoliprotein B in the blood. Ezitimibe should be taken alone or with other cholesterol reducing drugs. Ezetimibe should be taken only if prescribed by the doctor.
Precaution:
- If you are allergic to ezitimibe or any other medicine of this class, you should not take this medicine.
- If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, you should inform your doctor before taking ezitimibe.
- If you are breast-feeding, inform your doctor before taking ezitimibe.
- If you have a problem of liver disease, you should consult your doctor. In certain cases, ezitimibe may not be recommended to liver patients.
- If you are suffering from muscle pain or weakness, you should inform your doctor.
- If you are taking other medicines to lower cholesterol, you should inform your doctor, so an adjusted dose of combined medicine can be prescribed to you.
- If two drugs are taken together, they may interact with each other. If you are taking any prescribed or non-prescribed, food supplements or herbal medicine, you should inform your doctor before taking ezitimibe.
- If you are taking any bile acid sequestrant, you should keep a gap between ezitimibe and bile acid sequestrant of at least four hours.
Warning:
- Take the medicine exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
- Take all precautions to eat low fat diet or low cholesterol diet.
- Cholesterol levels and liver function test should be carried out before starting ezitimibe.
- Do not take any non-prescribed medicine without consulting your doctor.

Overdose:
- You should not use double dose at a time.
- The exact symptoms of overdose are not known.
- If you suspect any side effect as mentioned below, you should consult your doctor before taking ezitimibe.
Side Effects:
- The side effects of ezitibibe may vary from person to person.
- The side effect may include allergic effect (difficulty in breathing, swelling in throat, lip and face), you should seek immediate medical help, if you observe any of the side effect as mentioned above.
- The common side effects include diarrhea, back and abdominal pain, joint pain, weakness and tiredness.
- Some other side effects may also be observed. If you observe any of the symptoms as mentioned above or any other symptom, you should talk to your doctor immediately.
How to take:
- Take ezitimibe only if prescribed by the doctor.
- Take the medicine with full glass of water.
- Take the medicine with or without food.
- The medicine should be taken once a day or as prescribed by your doctor.
- If you have missed a dose, take as soon as you remember. If it is the time of your next dose, take a single dose. Do not take double dose.
- You should not stop ezetimibe without consulting your doctor.
How to store:
- The medicine should be stored at room temperature preferably below 30 degree centigrade and out of reach of children
- The ezetimibe should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture.
- Outdated medicines should not be used.
