Fenofibrate:
Generic Name: The generic name of the medicine is fenofibrate. The medicine is used for reducing triglycerides and cholesterol. These are fatty materials and further subdivided into “good” (HDL- high density lipoprotein) and “bad” (LDL- low density lipoprotein) cholesterol. The higher amount of these lipids or cholesterol which is very low-density lipoprotein, higher the risk of thickening the walls of arteries or veins and thereby causing low blood flow and low oxygen supply to heart, brain and other important human organs. Fenofibrate helps in reducing the LDL cholesterol and thus raises the level of HDL (good) cholesterol in blood.
Fenofibrate is recommended only when the other option of reducing lipids or cholesterol fails. However, any other instruction given by your doctor such as diet or exercise should be continued for obtaining better results.
