Camcolit:
Generic Name:
The active chemical in camcolit is lithium carbonate, which acts as mood stabilizing agent. This drug should be taken only if prescribed by a physician.
Precautions:
- All precaution should be taken while prescribing the medicine for elderly people.
- If you are pregnant or plan to pregnant contact your doctor before starting camcolit.
- If you are breast-feeding, you should not take this medicine.
- If anyone in your family has a history of depression, bipolar disorder or mania, take all precautions before taking camcolit and consult your doctor.
- If you are allergic to camcolit or any other ingredients of this medicine, tell your doctor before starting the treatment.
- If your adrenal glands are not producing natural steroid hormone, you should not take this medicine.
- If you are suffering from heart problems, decreased kidney function, you should not take this medicine.
- Sometimes the combinations of medicines, if taken together may interact, so if you are taking any other medicine or herbal product, inform your doctor before starting the medicine.
Warning:
- If you are on camcolit, you should carry out regular checkup for kidney function, thyroid and heart.
- You should take a proper amount of fluid, as camcolit may cause dehydration.
- You should take a proper diet, so that the level of salt is maintained in the blood.
- The camcolit is not advisable prescribe children below 18 years of age.
- Avoid drinking alcohol while you are on camcolit.
Overdose:
- Camcolit increases the lithium in blood, which may cause potentially dangerous side effects, known as lithium toxicity. These side effects include diarrhea, vomiting, confusion, convulsions, tremors, dizziness, blurred vision, stomach problem and muscle seizers.
- The overdose may also cause dehydration, if proper fluid intake is not maintained.
- You may also feel the urge of urination frequently.
How to take:
- Camcolit should be taken only if prescribed by a doctor.
- Take the appropriate dose as directed by the physician. Camcolit tablets should be swallowed with water.
- In no case, you should stop taking camcolit, without consulting your doctor, especially if you are on camcolit for a long time.
Side Effects:
- The common side effects of camcolit are weakness or tiredness, thirsty, tremor, nausea, muscle weakness, and nausea and decreased kidney function.
- The extreme severe side effects include excessive urination, balance problem in inner air, lower blood thyroid hormone level, over activity of thyroid glands, excessive fluid retention in body leading to swelling, skin rashes and memory problem.
- If anyone of these cases is observed in the patient, you must call doctor immediately.
How to store:
- The drugs should be stored in a safe place at room temperatures, and out of reach of children. These medicines should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture.
- Outdated medicines should be thrown out.
