Erythromycin and Benzoyl Peroxide:
Generic ingredients: The generic ingredients of the medicine are erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide. The medicine is used for treating pimples (acne). Erythromycin acts as an antibiotic and benzoyl peroxide as antibacterial agents. Erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide are available in gel or pack forms. After mixing ethyl alcohol to erythromycin powder, benzoyl peroxide gel is added to the mixture and then applied to the patient or separate pack of erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide are mixed together and applied to the patient. Erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide may also be used for other purposes not listed here.
Precautions:
- If you are allergic to erythromycin or benzoyl peroxide or any other preservative and dyes, , you should consult doctor before using this medicine.
- You may feel irritation to your skin, if other acne medicine is also used.
- This medicine is used for other external use only, and the medicine should not be allowed to contact mouth, nose and eyes.
- If you are pregnant or plan to pregnant, you should consult your doctor.
- If you are a nursing woman, you should consult your doctor before applying erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide.
Warning:
- Benzoyl peroxide may act as bleaching agent, so it should not be allowed to come in contact with the skin and clothes.
- Use of PABA sunscreen and benzoyl peroxide together may cause your skin color to change. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
- Intestinal inflammation may occur with the use of this medicine. If you develop diarrhea, you should immediately contact to your doctor.
- If you are using any other acne medicine, you should consult your doctor before using erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide.
- Take erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide as directed by the doctor. Do not stop the medicine even if you are feeling better without consulting your doctor.
Overdose:
- An overdose of erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide may cause some of the side effects as mentioned below.
- You should seek immediate medical help, if you observe any of the side effects.
Side Effects:
- The common less serious side effects include itching, redness, tenderness, burning, peeling, swelling skin irritation and redness.
- The medicine may increase the sensitivity towards sunlight.
- Some other side effects may also occur. In all such cases you should consult your doctor.
How to take:
- You should use medicine in appropriate doses only if prescribed by the doctor.
- The skin should be washed with water and should be dried.
- A thin layer of layer of the medicine should be applied to the skin once or twice as per direction given by your doctor.
- If you missed a dose, take the medicine as soon as you remember. If it is time to take next dose, take only a single dose. You should not take double dose.
- You should not stop erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide, with out consulting your doctor.
How to store:
- Erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide should be stored in refrigerator.
- Medicine should be kept out of reach of children.
- Outdated medicines should not be used.
