Eprosartan Mesylate

What is Eprosartan Mesylate?
             
            This medication is used to treat people who suffer from high blood pressure.

How should this medication be taken?
            Swallow this medication whole wit ha large glass of water to help you swallow it better. If you have trouble swallowing or on a feeding tube ask your doctor how you can take this medication. Take this medication everyday the way your doctor has told you to take it. Be sure to take it even if you are feeling better. Take it at the same time everyday so that you do not forget to take it. But if you do happen to for get to take it take it as soon as you remember but if it is almost time for your next does just skip the one you forgot to take and go back to your regular schedule, never take two doses at once. Do not stop taking this medication unless your doctor tells you to do so. You can take this medication with or without food depending on how the medication will affect your stomach, if it makes it upset take it with a meal or a snack.

In case of an overdose.
            If you feel you or someone else has taken an over dose call poison control or go to your local emergency room right away.    

Side effects of this medication
            Some side effects of this medication can be life threatening so if you experience any of the following side effects go to your local emergency room immediately:

• Trouble breathing
• Tightness in your chest
• Swelling of your body
• Hives

There are also other serious side effects although not life threatening but still very serious they include:

• Fainting
• Fast heart beat
• Dizziness
• Muscle weakness

Other more common less serious side effects are as follow:

• Cough
• Respiratory infection
• Diarrhea
• Stuffy nose
• Leg pain
• headache

Drug and food interactions
            Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications for they may interact with this medication:

• Water pills
• Motrin
• Aspirin
• Lithium

Also tell your doctor about any non prescription drugs that you might be taking including vitamins and herbal products.

Precautions when taking this medication

Before you begin taking this medication tell your doctor if you have ever suffered or suffer from any of the following illnesses:

• Allergic reaction to this or any other medications you have taken in the past.
• Heart failure
• Kidney problems
• Liver problems
• Problems with urination

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or might become pregnant while on this medication. Do not take this medication if you are on your third month of being pregnant because it can cause serious harm to your unborn baby. Tell you doctor if you plan to breast feed because it can make the baby sick. So unless your doctor says it is okay do not breast feed while on this medication for the safety of your baby. If you have become dehydrated because of diarrhea or sweating too much or you have lost too much salt from your body. Then this medication could cause your blood pressure to drop. This medication could cause you to become drowsy so be very careful when driving or doing any other activates that need you to be alert.

Storing this medication
            Keep this medication in the same container it came in and out of reach of children and animals. Store this medication in a cool dry place away from heat and moisture. Also keep it away from bright light. If your medications are outdated ask your doctor or pharmacist how to dispose of them properly.

Drug interactions
. When you take other medications along with this one it may affect how this medication works or how the other medications work. Some foods and drugs can interact with this medication such so tell your doctor about any of the following thing:

• If you drink alcohol
• If you take water pills
• If you take herbs or vitamins

Keep a list of your medications and give them to your health care provider.
