Effexor
Generic Name: Generic name of effexor is venlafaxine hydrochloride and it acts as an antidepressant medicine. Effexor is used for treating depression, panic disorder and anxiety. The medicine should be taken only if prescribed by the doctor.
Precaution:
- If you are on MAO, you should not take effexor and at least a 14 days gap is required to switch over from MAO to effexor.
- The dose of effexor should be gradually increased to avoid the overdose.
- All precautions should be taken while prescribing effexor to patients with a history of kidney problem, liver problem and epilepsy.
- If you have high blood pressure, inform your doctor before taking effexor.
- If you or your family members have a history of bipolar disorder, you should inform your doctor before taking effexor.
- If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, you should inform your doctor before taking effexor.
- If you are below 18 years of age, after taking medicine in initial days, you are at higher risk of suicidal thought.
Warning:
- If you are breast-feeding, you should not take effexor.
- You should take effexor only if prescribed by the doctor.
- You should not consume alcohol, while you are on effexor, which may increase dizziness.
- You should not drive and operate heavy machineries after taking effexor.
- Children below 18 years of age should be given the medicine after taking all precautions and such patients should be monitored at regular interval, as these patients may develop suicidal thoughts.
Overdose:
- You should take the dose as prescribed by the doctor.
- Sign and symptoms of overdose may vary from person to person.
- The overdose may cause disturbed concentration, confusion and dizziness.
- The overdose may also cause higher heart rate, irregular heart beats, impaired conduction as observed in ECG, convulsion, coma and constipation.
Side Effects:
- Some of the common side effects of effexor include dizziness, nausea, and change in mood, headache, change in sense, difficulty in breathing, headache, sweating, and convulsion.
- More sever side effects include irregular blood pressure, difficulty in breathing fever and swelling in face.
- If any of the side effects are observed, you should immediately contact to your doctor.
How to take:
- The medicine should be taken only if prescribed by the doctor.
- The medicine should be taken in appropriate dose as directed by the physician.
- The effexor should not be discontinued abruptly.
- If you have missed any dose, follow your regular schedule. Don’t take double dose after that.
How to store:
- The medicines should be stored at room temperature and out of reach of children.
- The medicine should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture.
- Outdated medicines should not be used and should be destroyed to avoid misuse of the medicines.
