Felodipine
What is Felodipine?
This medication is used to treat high blood pressure it relaxes your blood so that your heart dose not have to pump so hard. Other uses for this medication are also used to treat people who have been diagnosed with heat failure.
How should this medication be taken?
Take this medication by mouth be sure to swallow this medication whole. Do not chew it or crush it. If you have trouble swallowing or are on a feeding tube ask your doctor what can be done so that you can take your medication normally. Take it with a full glass of water it may help so that you can swallow the pills better. This medication can be taken with or without food. If it causes your stomach to become upset take it with a meal or a snack.
In case of an overdose:
If you feel you or someone else has taken an over dose call poison control or go to your local emergency room right away. It is not known to cause death if taken an overdose but there is a possibility of it so it is best to go to your local emergency room if you feel you have taken an overdose.
Side effects of this medication
Side effects of this medication are not usually common but can occur so if you feel any of the flowing symptoms or they become bothersome be sure to ask your doctor what can be done about them:
- Headache
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Fever
- Heart burn
- Constipation
Although there are really no serious side effects there are some that could cause you to need emergency medical attention these symptoms could be caused by an allergic reaction to the medication. These symptoms include any of the following:
- Swelling of your body
- Swelling of throat or tongue
- Being unable to breath
- Fainting
Drug and food interactions
Be sure to tell your doctor about nay meds that you are taking so that he can see if they will interact with this medication or not. This meds can include non prescription drugs such as vitamins and herbal products. Tell your doctor all medications you are taking and do not start taking others with out talking to your doctor first. There are no known food interactions when taking this medication but if you feel that it cause strange symptoms when you eat a certain foods talk to your doctor about it to see what can be done. If you see a pattern when eating a certain food and taking this medication stop eating that food until you have talked to your doctor about it. Tell your doctor if you are also taking any medications for ulcers or other stomach problems.
Precautions when taking this medication
Do not take this medication if you are pregnant if you might become pregnant talk to your doctor to see how long u can take this medication for before you become pregnant. Also talk to your doctor about breast feeding asks him if it is safe or if the medication will pass through the breast milk into the babies system and if it will cause harm to the baby. Be careful while driving because this medication can cause drowsiness and also be careful when doing any activities that need you to be alert until you know how this medication will affect you.
How to store this medication
Keep this medication in the same container it came in and keep it out of the reach of children and animals. Keep it away from heat and moisture do not store this medication in your bathroom or near a sink because the moisture from the sink can cause this medication to not work or become unable to be used. Keep it at room temperature. If the medication becomes out of date ask your doctor or pharmacist how you can safely get rid of it.
Drug interactions
. When you take other medications along with this one it may affect how this medication works or how the other medications work. Some foods and drugs can interact with this medication such so tell your doctor about any of the following thing:
- If you drink alcohol
- If you take ibprohin
- If you take water pills
- If you take herbs or vitamins
Keep a list of your medications and give them to your health care provider.
