Halfprin: Side Effects

What is Halfprin?

Halfprin is a prescription medicine containing aspirin, usually prescribed to lessen the chances of heart attack, stroke, and to prevent blood clots from forming. Halfprin is also used to relieve arthritis, lessening symptoms of swelling, pain, and stiffness in joints. In general, aspirin can be used to reduce fever and relieve pain as well, and Halfprin has been used for treatment of these symptoms as well. You should not take Halfprin to reduce the risk of heart attack and blood clots unless prescribed to do so by your doctor.

Because of its many uses and benefits, Halfprin is a commonly prescribed form of aspirin in elderly patients. Pain-reducing effects make it useful in the treatment of arthritis. You should only take Halfprin as prescribed by your physician, and use this medication only as prescribed. Talk to your doctor if you would like to discuss other possible treatments that Halfprin can provide.

How To Use Halfprin

Halfprin is most commonly prescribed in pill form and taken orally by mouth. Your Halfprin prescription may come in tablets, chewable tablets, or capsules for easy digestion.  To lessen stomach irritation, you should take Halfprin with food or just after meals, when your stomach is not empty. Halfprin is usually taken with a full (eight ounces) glass of water. After taking your dose of Halfprin, you should not lie down for fifteen to thirty minutes.

You should take Halfprin only as prescribed by your physician, and follow dosing instructions exactly. Take only the dosing amount prescribed per dose, never increasing the amount taken unless directed by your physician.
