Erythrocin
Generic NameErythrocin is better known for its active ingredient Erythromycin. This is known as a Macrolide Antibiotic. Erythrocin an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by a wide range of bacteria and other microorganisms. By preventing the production of proteins Erythromycin stops the bacteria from growing. Although Erythromycin does not kill the bacteria, it does prevent them from multiplying. This leaves them vulnerable to the natural immune system of the body, which can clear up the remaining bacteria. In this way any infection is treated. A very useful antibiotic, it can be used across a wide spectrum of treatments for infection. From the ears and eyes, to the skin and soft tissue of the body. Erythromycin have seen uses in everything from certain types of sexually transmitted infections, to dental and oral problems, and used to aid patients after surgery and in the burns units of hospitals. By taking a swab sample from the skin or throat, your Doctor will be able to test whether the bacteria causing the infection are susceptible to Erythromycin. Do not drop out of the course of treatment prescribed unless ordered to. By stopping the course too early, you may be leaving your self open to a return in the infection. The is a greater danger from this, in that the bacteria may become resistant to Erythrocin You must consult your Doctor if you suffer from diarrhoea, especially if this contains blood mucus. Inflammation can sometimes be caused to broad-spectrum Antibiotics in the bowel, known as Colitis. Caution Caution should be taken if you suffer with any of the following: Decreased Liver function, Decreased Kidney function, Abnormal muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), life long inherited blood diseases. Abnormal heart rhythem which might be seen on a ECG machine. Also caution should be taken if you have you have any sort of mental health problem. Erythrocin should not be taken if you are also taking any of the following drugs: ergot derivatives, e.g.: dihdyroergotamine, ergotamine, sertindole, terfenadine, cisapride, pimozide, or astemizole. The Doctor or pharmacist should be consulted if you are allergic to any of the ingredient of Erythrocin. Breastfeeding and Pregnancy
Although there are no known problems with taking this drug during pregnancy, it is advisable you consult a heath professional first before involving yourself in the treatment. Especially if planning a family. In many cases, a doctor will weigh the benefits to the mother against the small dangers it might pose. As small amounts may be passed through breast milk. Side Effects
There are no serious side effects from this drug. But some patients have had these problems recorded with Erythrocin. Nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, Arryhythmias , yellowing of the skin, allergic skin reaction, some hearing loss (but only after large doses). How to Take
After following all the instruction from your doctor or pharmacist carefully, take the prescribed dosage. The dose depends on your infection, and some can be as high as 4g, or 16 capsules a day. The capsules should be swallowed with a full glass of water. Do not crew or crush the capsules.
