Factive
Generic Name : The generic name of factive is gemifloxacine. Factive is an antibiotic and belongs to the class of medicines known as fluoroquinolones. It is used for treating bacterial infection caused by bronchitis and pneumania.
Famciclovir can also be used for other purposes.
Precautions:
- If you are allergic to factive or any other medicine of this class, you should not take factive.
- If you have or had a history of heart related problem such as irregular heart beat, irregular rhythm, prolong QT interval, do not take this medicine.
- If any of your family member have a history of heart problem such as irregular heartbeat, prolong QT interval and irregular rhythm, you should consult your doctor before taking factive.
- If you have a liver or kidney problem, inform your doctor before taking factive.
- If you have or had epilepsy, inform your doctor.
- If your potassium or magnesium level in blood sugar is very low, do not take factive as it may increase the risk of seizures.
- If you are taking warfarin, you should consult inform your doctor.
- Factive when taken with certain other drugs may change the effect of the medicine. If you are taking any other drug whether prescribed or non-prescribed, food supplement or herbal drug, you should consult your doctor before taking factive.
- If you are pregnant or plan to pregnant, you should consult your doctor.
- Antacids (containing magnesium and aluminium), zinc, magnesium or iron containing vitamins and mineral supplements, didanosine or pediatric powder or solution, should either be taken 3 hours earlier or 2 hours after factive.
Warning:
- You should avoid driving and operation of heavy machineries after taking factive, as it may cause dizziness.
- Avoid alcohol, as it may increase the dizziness.
- Use sunscreen and protective clothing, if you have to go out during peak hours as factive may increase sensitivity towards sunlight.
- Do not stop medicine, without completing the course as directed by your doctor.
Overdose:
- The dose of factive should be exactly taken as prescribed by the doctor.
- An overdose of factive may cause the symptoms like dizziness, nausea, weakness, constipation tremors, convulsions and dirrhea.
- You should seek immediate medical help, if you observe any of these symptoms.
Side Effects:
- The side effects of factive may vary from person to person.
- The more severe side effects of factive may include allergic reactions (swelling of face, lip, throat and difficulty in respiration). If you observe these allergic reactions you should contact immediately to your doctor.
- More common side effects include dizziness, stomach pain, skin rashes, increased sensitivity to light, constipation, dry mouth, diarrhea, vomiting and headache.
- Some other side effects may also occur. In all such cases you should consult your doctor.
How to take:
- You should take the medicine in appropriate doses only if prescribed by the doctor.
- The factive can be taken with or without food. The tablet should be taken with full glass of water. Try to take the medicine at the same time daily.
- Swallow the medicine as a whole; do not cut or chew the medicine.
- If you missed a dose, take the medicine as soon as you remember. If it is time to take next dose, take only a single dose. You should not take double dose.
- You should not stop factive even if you are feeling good, with out consulting your doctor.
How to store:
- Factive should be stored at room temperature preferably below 30 degree centigrade and out of reach of children.
- Medicine should be kept out of excessive heat and moisture.
- Outdated medicines should not be used.
