Eprosartan
What is Eprosartan?
Eprosartan is used to treat high blood pressure it is used to stop some chemicals from going into the blood vessels and making them tight so that the blood vessels will flow more smoothly and keep it from tightening up. So it can reduce your high blood pressure. This medication is also sometimes used to treat heart failure. But remember it is not a cure for high blood pressure or heart failure it is only used to treat it and keep your symptoms from getting worse.
How should this medication be taken?
Take this medication by mouth be sure to swallow this medication whole. Do not chew it or crush it. If you have trouble swallowing or are on a feeding tube ask your doctor what can be done so that you can take your medication normally. It can be taken once or twice a day depending on how your doctor has told you to take it. It can be taken with or without food depending on how your stomach reacts to this medication. If it makes your stomach upset take it with a meal or a snack. Do not take more or less of this medication then your doctor tells you to. Also remember this medication dose not cure high blood pressure only controls it. So take it even if you are feeling well.
Precautions to remember when taking this medication:
Before taking this medication be sure to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to this or any other medications. Also tell your doctor what other medication you might be taking even if they are non prescription drugs such as vitamins or other herbal products as well. Tell your doctor if you are also taking water pills or have heart failure or kidney disease. If you are pregnant or might become pregnant ask your doctor about the risks to you and the baby while taking this medication. It is not known if this medication will do harm to an unborn baby or if it will pass through breast milk when breast feeding so ask your doctor if it is safe to breast feed while on this medication.
Side effects of this medication:
There are both serious and less serious side effects to this medication. The less serious side effects are as follow:
Runny nose
Sore throat
Cough
Tiredness
Stomach pain
Nausea
Vomiting
Joint pain
Depression
More serious side effects could include any of the following:
Swelling of the body
Hoarseness
Trouble swallowing
Trouble breathing
Fainting
Dizziness
Tell your doctor if these side effects become bothersome to see what can be done to help them to be less of a problem.
Overdose
If you or anyone you know has taken an overdose calls poison control immediately or go your local emergency room right away. There is no known causes of this medication causing death if taken as an over dose but it could be possible.
Storing this medication.
Keep this medication in the same bottle it came in and keep the lid tightly closed. Be sure to keep it out of the reach of children and animals. Store it away from heat and moisture. Do not store this medication in your bath room or any where near a sink because the moisture from the sink can make the medication useless. Throw away any medication that is outdated. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about disposing of this medication properly so that it cannot be found and taken by children or animals.
Important tips to know when taking this medication:
Keep your appointments with your doctor and keep tabs on your blood pressure also never let anyone take your medication even if they have the same illness or symptoms you have. It may seem like the right thing to do that no harm can come from it. But this medication has been prescribed for you and your condition and allergic reactions. Just because someone else has the same conditions does not mean they have the same allergic reaction to pills etc. If you do not know the persons medical history you do not know what is safe for them to take.
