Fexofenadine:
Generic Name: The generic name of the medicine is fexofenadine. It is a second-generation antihistamine and used to treat allergy (itchy, runny nose, sneezing and watery eyes). Histamine is a chemical released from mast cells. These histamine chemicals are attached to those other cells having receptors for this type of chemicals. This process activates the cell and the activated cell further releases some other chemicals responsible for causing allergy. Fexofenadine blocks H-1 receptor for histamine and thus H-1 receptor containing cells do not get activated for histamine chemicals. Second generation antihistamine has a benefit over their counterparts that these do not easily enter into brain.
Fexofenadine is available in tablets of 30mg, 60 mg and 180 mg and capsules of 60 mg.
