Intro Pronounced ba kam pi sill in, it is a form of penicillin which is used to fight off harmful bacterial in the body. This drug is used to treat many different types of infection including, tonsillitis, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, pneumonia, and numerous skin infections. It is also commonly referred to as Spectrobid and meets with FDA (food and drug administration) approval. Precautions One should use this prescription in its entirety. Do not discontinue use prior to completing your treatment just because you may feel better. Follow your doctors instructions to the letter to ensure that your infection is treated and properly. When taking this drug it is important to realize that it may reduce the effectiveness of the birth control pill and a second form of contraceptive should be used to protect against unwanted pregnancy. As with most prescription drugs. anyone taking Bacampicillin should also avoid alcohol, as it may irritate the stomach. If you are taking any of the following drugs you should also consult with your doctor as there may be adverse drug interaction. These include cholestyramine or colestipol, methotrexate, allopurinal, probenicid, any other antibiotics and you should advise your doctor of any over the counter medicines or herbal supplements you are taking. One final precaution is to be considered if you are a diabetic. There have been reported incidences of false positive results to some urine glucose test, so you may want to have a test repeated after your treatment is complete. Method of Dosage Each pill dose should be taken with a glass of water and can be taken with or without food. It should also be taken at equal timely intervals in order to maintain the proper high enough dosage to treat the infection. It is important to take all of this medicine to ensure proper treatment. If you miss a does take the missed does as soon as possible with one exception. If when you remember it is close to taking another does, skip the missed dose. It is important to advise your doctor immediately of these preexisting conditions in order to evaluate whether or not this drug should be used. Bacampicillin is in the FDA's category B, which means that its use is not expected to be harmful to a n embryo or fetus however, as with any drug if you are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant you should talk to your doctor before beginning treatment. Further, if you are nursing this drug can be passed through breast milk and as such you should advise your physician. It is known that the amount passed from mother to child is not expected to be harmful. Side Effects
Storage Bacampicillin should be stored away from heat, light, and moisture and as such should not be kept in the bathroom. As with any medicine, it should be kept OUT OF THE REACH of children as accidental overdose could occur.
