Eletriptan
What is Eletriptan?
This medication is used to treat migraine headaches. It helps to reduce the swelling of the blood vessels in the brain and stops the pain; however this medication is not to be used to stop migraines from happening or to reduce the number of migraines you get.
How should Eletriptan be taken?
This medication should be taken by mouth when you feel a migraine attack coming on. If you feel better when taking it but get another migraine 2 hours later you may take another pill. But if your symptoms do not get better with the first dose do not take another one before talking to your doctor first. Do not take more than 2 pills in 24 hours.
Precautions for taking Eletriptan.
Be sure to tell your doctor what medications you are taking including noon prescription drugs or herbal products. Also if you are taking any vitamins. Also tell your doctor if you smoke, or have a history of heart disease in your family. Or if you have ever had a heart attack or stroke. Also if you are going through menopause. Also if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, trouble with your bowels, if you have trouble with circulation. Liver or kidney disease, also be sure to let your doctor know if your pregnant or might become pregnant. Ask your doctor if it is safe to breast-feed while on these meds. This medication will also make you drowsy so be careful when driving. Or doing other activities that need you to be alert until you know how this medication will affect you. Also talk to your doctor about drinking grapefruit juice with this meds.
Side effects of Eletriptan.
Some on the side effects of this medication are as follow:
- Weakness
- Hear burn
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Stomach pain
- Dry mouth
This are the less serious side effect there are also some serious side effects that you should be aware of and they are as follow:
- Pain and tightness in chest
- Trouble talking
- Dizziness
- Fainting
- Sever stomach pain
- Blood in your stool
- Irregular heart beat
- Lips or other parts of your body turning blue.
If you get any of this side effects call an ambulance or have someone take you to your local emergency room right away.
How to store this medication
Keep this medication in the same container it came in and keep it out of the reach of children and animals. Keep it away from heat and moisture do not store this medication in your bathroom. Keep it at room temperature. If the medication becomes out of date ask your doctor or pharmacist how you can safely get rid of it.
