Efudex
Efudex belongs to the group of antimetabolites and is used for the treatment of certain skin problems including cancer or other related conditions of skin, if not treated may cause skin cancer. Efudex is available in the forms of cream and topical solution.
Precaution:
- The medicine should be applied to the skin only if prescribed by the doctor.
- The medicine should be applied to the skin carefully so that it does not come in contact with mouth, nose and eyes.
- Avoid sunlight as much as possible, particularly during 10 am to 4 pm.
- Use sunglasses and hat, if you cannot avoid sunlight particularly during peak hours.
- If you are allergic to efudex, inform your doctor.
- If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, you should inform your doctor before taking efudex.
- If you are breast-feeding, you should consult your doctor before taking efudex.
Warning:
- Apply efudex as per direction given by the doctor.
- Do not use higher concentration than the recommended one.
- Before applying efudex to the skin, skin should be first completely washed with soap and should be dried.
- Make sure that your hands are cleaned after applying medicine to avoid accidental contact of medicine to the eyes, mouth or nose.
Overdose:
- You should use efudex as prescribed by the doctor.
- Sign and symptoms of overdose may vary from person to person.
- The overdose may cause irritation in skin and sensitivity of skin towards sunlight.
Side Effects:
- The side effects of the medicine may vary from person to person.
- Some of the side effects of efudex include burning feeling on skin, skin rashes, sensitivity of skin towards sunlight, tenderness in the skin and irritation and darkening in the skin.
- If any of the side effects are observed, you should immediately contact to your doctor.
How to take:
- The medicine should be used only if prescribed by the doctor.
- The dose of efudex varies from person to patient to patient. Cream doses vary from 0.5% to 1.0% for precautionary skin problems and upto 5.0% for treating skin cancer and should be applied one to two times per day.
- For topical solution, the dose is up to 1.0% for precautionary skin treatment and up to 5.0% for treating skin cancer and should be applied one or two times.
How to store:
- The medicines should be stored at room temperature and out of reach of children.
- The medicine should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture.
- Outdated medicines should not be used and should be destroyed to avoid misuse of the medicines.
