Bupropion Intro More commonly known as Zyban, this drug is known being used by those wishing to kick the habit of smoking. It was also the first non-nicotine aid passed by the FDA for those wishing to quit. However, it is important to mention that it is also prescribed as an antidepressant to some in the form of a drug called Wellbutrin. It is believed that those who smoke suffer from a biochemical need for nicotine and Bupropian is thought to alter the bodies’ mood transmitters that are associated with the addiction. It is also believed that since this drug acts as an antidepressant it also helps alleviate this symptom that many who quit smoking suffer from. Another plus to this medication is that since it is non-nicotine a person wishing to quit can taper off gradually and not suffer the side effects of quitting cold turkey. This first step is to speak with your physician to see if this may be a treatment option for you.
