Foradil:
Generic Name: The generic name of foradil is formoterol, and it contains formoterol fumarate, which acts a selective beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist and upon anhaling it will act locally in the lung as bronchodilator.
Foradil is used for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and exercise–induced bronchospasm (EIB).
Foradil is available in capsule form, which contains a white to yellowish dry powder to be inhaled orally with the help of aerolizer inhaler.
Precaution:
- If you are suffering from acute asthma, you should not take foradil.
- If you have cardiac problem, irregular pulse rate, abnormal heart rate, high blood pressure, foradil should be given with caution. If you observe palpitation, high or irregular blood pressure, you should contact your doctor immediately.
- You may be prescribed short inhalers with foradil. Keep a record of all medicines you are taking.
- If you are allergic to foradil or other beta-2 agonist, you should not take the medicine.
- Do not take foradil with other beta-2 agonist.
- If you are pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, your doctor should prescribe foradil to you if potential benefits justify potential risk to the child.
- If two drugs are taken together, they may interact with each other. If you are taking any prescribed or non-prescribed, food supplements or herbal medicine including monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, beta blockers, water pills, steroids, food supplements and herbal products, you should inform your doctor before taking foradil.
Warning:
- Foradil capsules should be inhaled only and should not be swallowed.
- Foradil should not be used for treating acute episodes of asthma. For treating these episodes another intensive therapy may be required.
- Corticostreoids should not be discontinued or reduced if treatment with foradil has been initiated.
- Although it is not known, whether foradil excretes in breast-milk. If you are a nursing mother prescribed with foradil, you should inform your doctor.
- If you are taking any short time inhalers, you should tell your doctor before using foradil.
- Inform your doctor, if you observe a change in your lung activity.
Overdose:
- The symptoms of overdose of foradil may include dizziness, headache, dry mouth, fatigue, chest pain, nausea, nervousness, seizures, tremors and irregular heartbeats.
- If you observe any of the symptoms as mentioned above or any other symptoms, you should seek immediate medical help.
Side Effects:
- The side effects of foradil may include allergic reaction, anxiety, back pain, abdominal pain, headache, nausea, cough, constipation, fatigue, stomach pain, worsening of asthma, high or low blood pressure, muscle cramp, respiratory problem, nervousness, tremor and dizziness.
- Some other side effects may also be observed. If you observe any of the symptoms as mentioned or any other symptom, you should talk to your doctor immediately.
How to take:
- Foradil should be taken only if prescribed by the doctor.
- Foradil capsule should be inhaled using aerolizer inhaler. Capsule should not be swallowed.
- Place the capsule in the well of aerolizer. Press and release the button, which will pierce the capsule and medicine will be dispersed into the air and inhale rapidly and deeply through the mouthpiece.
- Do not use spacer with this medicine.
- Keep your hand and the system dry, so that the medicine does not break into pieces.
- Discard the aerolizer after use. Use a fresh aerolizer, which comes with each refill.
- If you have forgotten a dose, take as soon as you remember. If it is the time to take next dose, take a single dose. Do not take double dose of foradil.
How to store:
- The medicines should be stored at room temperature preferably below 30 degree centigrade and out of reach of children
- The foradil capsules should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture.
- Outdated medicines should not be used.
