Generic name : Frovatriptan succinate

It is called Frova.  It belongs to the group of drugs that is called serotonin agonists.  It is prescribed for people suffering from hemiplegic migraine or basilar migraine. The blood vessels which supply blood to the brain, get stretched occasionally,  perhaps at the time of exercise or some activities when the brain gets more fluid.
Of course it is good to have inflated blood flow at times. But  prolonged flow may cause expansion of the blood vessels and reduced level of serotonin, a chemical secretion which serves as a messenger to the brain.  This causes migraine.
Migraine causes intense and  throbbing headache at  one side of the head which is more painful than the ordinary headache,  which can occur even with prolonged fasting.  It can happen if one keeps empty stomach after a good bath. If  one thinks that it will naturally get cured, it will.  But  the whole duration may continue till days.
Within hours, there will be nausea  and vomiting.  Bright light and sound that is louder than a whisper will affect the person.
When this happens there is no prelude  like flickering lights, stars dancing or  any other visual disruption.  If the reason is known, then  one should take the body position as such as to adjust the excessive flow.

Warning precautions, overdose

Frova is not for heart patients.  If you are keeping high blood pressure, then please keep away from it.  Persons with a case history related to the heart, should also avoid taking the medicine.
If you notice some allergy after taking this medicine, then it shoukd not be used again.  Since it helps regulate serotonin, it cannot be taken till 24 hours after taking any medicine that is used to secrete serotonin  which may be namely, Amerge, Axert, Imitrex, Maxalt, and Zomig.  It is also to be avoided with Ergot based medicines like Cafergot, DHE, Sansert, and Wigraine.
It should only be used when the migraine is established as the disease.
Chain smokers should  avoid the medicine. Others  for whom the restriction applies are people with obesity, diabetes, strong family history of  heart disease, women who have attained menopause (natural/artificial manner bothe applicable) and  male members who have crossed the age of 40.
Nursing mothers may experience extraordinary rise in milk production after  taking the pill. This is not yet laboratory tested  for human beings,  but precaution has to  be there.
It is not administered to children.  People who are 18 years of age can only take the medicine.

Maximum dose to a heathy human being is 40 mg, each tablet containing 2.5 mg. Daily intake may be 7.5 mg.    In case one suspects an overdose,  one should contact the doctor immediately.
How to take
When the headache occurs, one should take the tablet.   It would give immediate relief. But the headache may return after some time.  At least two hours should be given after taking the first dose. It should be kept in mind that it is not regular use.  Other precautions are more important than rushing to have the drug.
In no case should it be taken more than thrice daily.  It also implies that  each dose has to be just one tablet.
Side effects
Doctors have tested a healty male with even 100 mg of it without diagonsing any significant adverse effect.  There may be some negligible reacctions as follows  which disapper within 48 hours of administration.

  • Feeling of  tiredness
  • Other  type of  headache which is non-migraine

How to store
It is to be stored at room temperature away from light. It should be kept at a dry place in side a drawer where there is  no moisture .  Places like bathroom, kitchen  may be avoided.  This may cause the medicine to turn poisionous.
It has to be stored beyond the reach of children.  People with extra sensitivity should not know about the medicine at all.  Overdosage may kill a person.
