Fortovase:
Generic Name: The generic name of fortovase is saquinavir. Fortovase is a protease inhibitor and it is used for treating human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Fortovase inhibits HIV protease as it is a peptide like substrate, which binds the protease active site and thus inhibits protease enzyme. Inhibition of fortovase prevents cleavage of the viral polyprotein results in the formation of non-infectious immature virus particles.
Fortovase is recommended for use in combination with other anti-retroviral drugs for treating HIV infectio. The combination of these medicines produces an increase in white blood cells and consequently reduces the amount of virus in blood.
