Fluocinonide

 

What is Fluocinonide?
            This medication is used to treat many types of skin conditions such as Dermatitis, eczema, bug bites, burns diaper rash etc.   It is also at times used to treat fungus and also yeast infections.

How should this medication be taken?
            This medication is not to be taken orally it is for use on sin only. Keep it out of your mouth nose and eyes. This cream at time will burn, if it does get into your eyes nose or mouth be sure to wash it out immediately. Wash your hands before and after use so to avoid contact with eyes or mouth. Use this ointment or cream in the place where you have the rash or skin condition, do not use a lot of it just use a light film coating a very thin layer and rub it in gently. Do not cover it with any type of bandages, dressings or makeup unless told to do so by your doctor. Do not use tight fitting diapers or plastic pants on a baby or older child that you are treating for diaper rash. This may cause the medication to enter the child’s system.

When not to take this medication?
            Do not take this medication if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this medication or any of its ingredients. Also do not take this medication if you ever had a fungal, viral or tubular skin infection. Talk to your doctor if you have had any of these problems before taking this medication so that another can be prescribed for you.

Precautions when taking this medication.
            Tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this medication and how it affected you. Also tell your doctor if you plan to get pregnant or are pregnant. This medication is not known to cause harm to an unborn baby but there is a chance it could so be sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant or will be come pregnant. Also talk to your doctor if you are breast feeding again it is not known if this cream will pass into the babies system through breast milk, however it is likely so it is best not to breast feed unless your doctor tells you that it is save to do so.

Side effects of this medication
There are no serious side effects reported in this medication but there are a few common side effects such as burning, swelling, or redness of the skin. However there are more serious side effects if you are getting an allergic reaction to this medication. If you feel you are having an allergic reaction to this medication seek emergency medical care right away because in some people an allergic reaction could be fatal. Side effects of an allergic reaction can include any of the following:

  • Tightness in chest
  • Trouble breathing
  • Chest pain
  • Fever
  • Swelling of face, lips or tongue
  • Burning of the skin
  • Any new rashes

Important information to know when taking this medication.
            Never share this medication with others and do not use others medication even if you have or they have the same symptoms as you it is not safe because your doctor has prescribed the medication for your body’s system. Keep a list of all the medications you are taking so your doctor knows to see if it will interact with this medication at his time there are no know drug or food interactions. Be sure to tell your doctor all the medications you are taking even if they are non-prescription such as, vitamins, allergy meds, and also any herbal remedies you might be taking.

Storing this medication
            Keep this medication out of reach of children and animals keep it in the same box and container it came in. Store it at room temperature away from heat or moisture, do not store in a bathroom or near a sink because the cream could get wet and not work any more or not work as well. If any of your medication becomes out dated talk to your doctor or pharmacist of how to safely get rid of it. The safest way to get rid of it would be to give it to your doctor or pharmacist and have them dispose of it themselves.
