Coaxil

Brand Name: Tianeptine, Stablon

What is it?
Coaxil is an antidepressant drug that is related to the chemical amineptine. It is often referred to as a serotonin reuptake accelerator and it works opposite to the action of SSRI’s (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), making this drug unique.  This drug appears to decrease the extracellular serotonin level and shows no affinity for neurotransmitter receptors.

Coaxil has a very strong antidepressant with clear lack of a sedative feature, which is key for some individuals.  This is a huge benefit to doctors using this drug. It also does not have any cardio effects so is extremely suitable for older patients and for those suffering from alcohol withdrawal who are quite sensitive to the effects of these types of antidepressant drugs.

Coaxil has also in the past couple of years, been used to treat individuals with asthma. Thou an individual using it in this way will need to be monitored for any changes in their condition while on this medication.

How to take it?
This medication needs to be prescribed by your doctor. 12.5mg is recommended three times per day(before meal). This medication can or can not be taken with food. An individual should never stop taking this medication, before first consulting with their doctor.

Warnings and Precautions
You need to tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant or breast feeding. Coaxil should not be taken as it can cause adverse effects to your fetus or to your infant. This medication should not be used with any other MAO inhibitors, by an expectant mother or by children who are age fifteen or younger, as it can have serious side effects.

If you are going to have surgery, you need to inform your doctor. As you will need to stop usage of the medication at least twenty-four to forty-eight hours before surgery; this is due to the fact that while in surgery you will usually be under anesthetic and these can have adverse effects to an individual taking Coaxil. Usually, treatment is gradually reduced over a period of seven to fourteen days, as to prevent any negative reactions.

An individual should know that this medication can cause you to become dizzy and drowsy. While taking this medication you should not drive a car, or operate any machinery.

There is some risk of suicide while on this drug; this is why it is important for an individual to be closely monitored by their doctor while on the drug. Once an individual’s condition is stable then the risk of suicide is reduced significantly.
