Finasteride for baldness:
Generic Name: The generic name of the medicine is finasteride. The medicine is used for growing hair in bald men, where mild to moderate hair loss has occurred. Hair loss in male is either inherited from either of the parents or a chemical known as DHT, is responsible for shrinking the hair follicle. Finasteride helps in increasing hair growth and also reduces hair loss. The finasteride acts only on scalp hair and does not affect hair on any other parts of the body.
Precaution:
- Although finasteride is not intended for use in woman, if taken during pregnancy, may cause abnormal developments in male sex organs.
- If you are allergic to finasteride or proscar, you should not take the medicine.
- If you had or have liver or kidney disease, you should use finasteride with caution.
- If you have a prostate cancer, inform your doctor that you are taking finasteride.
- If two drugs are taken together, they may interact with each other. If you are taking any prescribed or non-prescribed, food supplements or herbal medicine, you should inform your doctor before using finasteride.
Warning:
- Crushed or broken medicine should not be touched by a pregnant woman, as the medicine may absorbed by the skin and may affect male babies.
- Finasteride is intended for male only.
- The results of the medicine may be seen only after 3 months. If it does not give satisfactory improvement after one year, it may not be suitable for you.
Overdose:
- The affect of overdose of finasteride is not known.
- If you suspect an overdose of finasteride, you should seek immediate medical help.
Side Effects:
- The side effects of finasteride are sex related and include decreased sex drive, low semen, ejaculation problem, swelling and testicular pain.
- Some other side effects may also be observed. If you observe any of the symptoms as mentioned or any other symptom, you should talk to your doctor immediately.
How to take:
- Use finasteride only if prescribed by the doctor.
- Finasteride tablets should be taken once daily or as recommended by your doctor.
- Finasteride should be taken with a full glass of water. Swallow the medicine as a whole. Don’t cut or chew the medicine.
- The medicine can be taken with or without food.
- If you have missed a dose, take as soon as you remember. If it is the time to take your next dose. Take a single dose and follow your regular schedule.
- Do not stop using finasteride without consulting your doctor.
How to store:
- The finasteride tablets should be stored at room temperature preferably below 30 degree centigrade and out of reach of children
- The finasteride tablets should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture.
- Outdated medicines should not be used.
