Esomeprazole Magnesium
Generic NameEsomeprazole magnesium is better known for its brand name: Nexium. This is an Antacid/proton Pump inhibitor. It is used in the relief of heartburn and the other symptoms associated with Gastrorsophageal Reflux disease (GERD). Another condition associated with GERD is Erosive Esophagitis, which is the frequent regurgitation of acid and Peptic juices from the stomach that causes ulcers. It is also used in conjunction with Amoxicillin and Clarithromycin, for the treatment of Helicobacter Pylori infection, for Duodenal ulcers. Heartburn is a very common illness with people today, and the best-known symptom is GERD. The patients may know this as simply a sour taste in the mouth or just difficulty in swallowing, but it is related to the stomach acid in the Esophagus. Acid reflux may damage the lining of the Esophagus and this can lead to ulcers. How it works
By blocking the action of a specific enzyme, Esomeprazole blocks the action in the cells that line the stomach, and lowering the production of acid. This helps the ulcer to heal. Do not double your dosage if you miss a turn. Simply go onto the next one. Always stick strictly to the dosage period prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking the drug just because you think you feel better. Let the drug run the full course of the treatment. AlcoholThe taking of any alcohol may aggravate an ulcer. Also it is never a good idea to mix medication with alcohol. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Although there are no known problems with taking this drug during pregnancy, it is advisable you consult a heath professional first before involving yourself in the treatment. Especially if planning a family. In many cases, a doctor will weigh the benefits to the mother against the small dangers it might pose. There is no known danger of Erythromycin topical being passed through breast milk, or deformities in babies. But it has been detected in breast milk. Children Tests have not shown any problems with children under 18, but many doctors would rule against it until there are better results. OverdosesThere have been no known reported cases of an overdose with Esomeprazole Magnesium. However some patients have expressed concern with side effects. These can be from drowsiness, dry mouth, confusion, profuse sweating, to flushing of the face, headache, nausea, blurred vision, unusually rapid heartbeat and even palpitations. If any of these symptoms show up in you or anyone taking the drug, seek medical help at once. Taking with other Drugs
You must tell your doctor if you are also taking any of the following drugs or medications: theophylline, digoxin, ketoconazole, disulfiram, cyclosporine, diazepam, ampicillin, sucralfate or iron salts and supplements. The doctor must be told if you have ever suffered any liver disease. This may also be the case if liver problems are present in your family history. Side Effects
Happily this is a safe medicine, and there are no known problems. But some patients have expressed concerns with diarrhoea, dry mouth, stomach pains, nausea, and dizziness. If you feel any of these effects, please inform your doctor. Storage
Keep the medicine in a safe place out of the reach of children. Keep it away from heat and direct sunlight, and if you have to keep it in a refrigerator, do not freeze solid. How to Take
Esomeprazole Magnesium should be swallowed hole, with a glass of water, about 1 hour before meals. It can be mixed with something else to help swallowing, but not chewed. Combinations |
