Intro Fevarin,or its generic counterpart Fluvoxamine (pronounced flew VOCK sa meen), is in a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. In English this means that Fevarin affects certain chemicals in the brain which may become unbalanced causing a person to exhibit abnormal symptoms and behaviors. This drug is most commonly used to treat depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Precautions The primary precaution is that this drug should never be taken unless prescribed to you by your health care professional. Never stop taking this drug without first consulting with your physician as adverse effects may apply. Since Fevarin is used as an antidepressant you may need to be monitored for worsening symptoms of depression or suicidal thoughts at the start of the drug therapy or at any time the dosage is changed. In trials about 4% of cases children under the age of 18 experienced an increased propensity for mania. Increased monitoring in children under the age of 18 is recommended. You should advise your health care professional of any and all other prescription, over the counter, or herbal health supplements you are taking in order to better evaluate the risk to you.
