Desoxyn:
Generic Name:
The generic name of the desoxyn is methamphetamine hydrochloride. It belongs to the class of methaphetamine group of sympathomimetic amines. It is generally available in 5 mg. tablets. This drug should be taken only if prescribed by a physician.
Precautions:
- If you are on MAO (monoamine oxidase), you should not take desoxyn and a minimum 14 days gap should be allowed to shift from MAO to desoxyn.
- If you are pregnant, plan to pregnant or are breast feeding, avoid the intake of desoxyn and inform your physician.
- Children having symptoms caused by stress or psychiatric disorder should not be given desoxyn.
- People suffering even with mild hypertension, should be given desoxyn carefully.
- Prescribing and intake of desoxyn should start from a minimum dose, in order to minimize overdose.
- If you are allergetic to desoxyn or any other medicine of methaphetamine group, tell your doctor before starting the treatment.
- Sometimes the combination of medicines, if taken together may interact. So, if you are taking any other medicine, inform your doctor.
Warning:
- Deficiency in the predicted growth rate, with respect to height and weight, especially in case of children has been observed with the use of long-term dependence of desoxyn.
- Mothers, dependent on desoxyn should refrain from breast-feeding to the children.
- The effects of this medicine may be seen only after a few weeks; meanwhile the dosage of the drugs should not be increased.
Overdose:
- The symptoms for overdose of this medicine may vary person-to-person and may include irregular blood pressure, agitation, depression, diarrhea, fatigue and irregular heartbeats.
- The more severe symptoms of overdose include rapid breathing restlessness, shock and tremor, kidney failures, convulsions and coma.
How to take:
- Desoxyn should be taken only if prescribed by a doctor.
- Take the appropriate dose as prescribed by the doctor. May be taken with or without food.
- Do not take the medicine in the late evening, which may affect your sleep.
Side Effects:
- The common side effects of desoxyn are weakness or tiredness, drowsiness, anxiety, insomnia and dry mouth.
- In some cases the side effects may be more severe such as difficulty in breathing, irregular heartbeats, irregular blood pressure, rapid changing moods, skin rashes, chest pain and fever.
- If any of these side effects are observed, see your doctor immediately.
How to store:
- The drugs should be stored in a safe place and out of reach of children.
- Outdated medicines should be thrown out.
