Yellow Dock

Other Common Names: Curled dock, Narrow dock, Sour dock, Rumex

Latin description: Rumex crispus.

Parts to use: Root.

Chemical constituents: Glycosides, tannins, anthraquinone glycoside, iron.

Actions: Astringent, cholagogue, laxative, tonic.

Medicinal Uses & Benefits

Crushed leaves are used as an antidote to the pain of contact with stinging nettle. As the old saying goes - Nettle in, dock out.
Astringent.
Yellow dock ointment valuable for itching, sores, swellings and scabby eruptions.
Anciently used as a laxative.
DECOCTION = Boil 1 tsp of root in 1 C. water; take 1 to 2 C. daily.

Yellow Dock is a great general tonic but particularly valuable for the liver. It is high in iron and used for anemia where iron deficiency is the cause.
It is also in use to clean the gallbladder, the lymph system and the blood.
(Note: some Ayurvedic texts translate Amla vetasa as Rhubarb. However, it looks more like Dock than Rhubarb).

Dosage

Capsules: 4 caps 3-4x daily.
Decoction: 1 cup 3x daily.
