Maintain a Healthy Weight
- If you are overweight, get to a healthy weight.
- Talk to your doctor about a weight loss plan.
- Avoid fad diets or other weight loss gimmicks.
- Set weight loss goals.
- Keep excess weight off by getting regular exercise and eating right.
Exercise
- Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise everyday.
- Find a partner to exercise with. It has been shown that by working with someone else, you will be more likely to stick to it.
- Set goals that will keep you going.
- Avoid making excuses as to why you can not exercise.
Be Smart About Sunlight
- Avoid the sun during peak hours.
- Wear sunscreen every time you go outside.
- Protect your eyes with sunglasses.
- Protect the vulnerable areas on your head by wearing a hat.
- Avoid tanning beds or other artificial sunlight.
Get Immunized
- Talk to your doctor about immunizations you can get that may protect against cancer.
- Stay up-to-date on your immunizations.
Avoid Risky Behavior
- Practice safe sex
- Do not use drugs.
- Drink alcohol responsibly and in moderation.
- Keep your body healthy.
- Limit your exposure to known carcinogens.
Get Screened
- Have a standing appointment with your doctor and specialists for regular cancer screenings.
- If you have a concern, then let your doctor know.
- Do not put off screenings. Early detection is key to having a chance to fight cancer.
